Update: Google & Yahoo Deal To Go Ahead
Google CEO says he is not planning to delay the search advertising deal with Yahoo Inc any longer.
In a recent press conference Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt stated that he does not believe Google needs to wait for Government approval to go ahead with the deal which will create a merger covering 80% of all US search marketing. He also suggested that the controversy surrounding the issue stemmed from a ‘natural fear of things getting larger’ and that he believes Microsoft are purposely helping people get ‘upset’ about the deal.
Concerns have been raised recently that the merging of the two search giants will diminish competition in the online advertising market.
Google maintains however that the very essence of the auction based selling format of their search advertising means the advertisers are ultimately in control.
The terms of the deal will see Google placing paid search adverts on Yahooo search results netting Yahoo Inc inthe region of $800 million a year in extra revenue.
Googles co-founders initiated the deal stating that they felt they owed it to the co-founders of Yahoo! who encouraged them to create the Google company 10 years ago.
Google and Yahoo! have a history with Google supplying search technology to Yahoo! until 2004 when they went it alone.
