Facebook ‘Not About Maximising Profit’
Talking to the BBC, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook reveals that his mission is not about maximising profit but letting users ’share more information and connect’.
In an interview with the BBC’s Rory Cellan-Jones, Mark explains how he started Facebook at college and has grown the company to reach over 100 million users in 4 years through a shared vision for the future of social networking.
Microsoft bought into Facebook spending $240 million for a 1.6% stake in the company and the company is said to be valued at around $3.75 billion.
Although now world renowned, Facebook had a controversial beginning. According to reports on Boston.com Zuckerberg allegedly nabbed the concept when working with fellow students on a similar website. The former Harvard associates claim Mark Zuckerberg ripped of their idea for a site called ConnectU, which follows similar principles to the social networking giant.
The case was settled with an undisclosed sum and Facebook stock.
